Research is testing Zooloft antidepressant for Ebola treatment

Gene Olinger, involved with the research, said the next step is to test in guinea pigs and monkeys

One of the most feared diseases by humanity, the Ebola - which affects mainly African countries - could have treatments already available in the Market. In a report published in the Science Translational Medicine journal in June, researchers revealed that Zooloft and Vascor may be helpful against the disease.

Court prohibits sacrifice for dogs infected with leishmaniasis in Campo Grande

An important decision by the Justice favors owners of dogs with leishmaniasis who live in Campo Grande (MS). In June, the Regional Federal Court of the Third Region (TRF-3) accepted the lawsuit by the NGO Abrigo dos Bichos (Animal Shelter) and, from now on, public agencies are prohibited from sacrificing animals as a measure to contain the disease.

Foreign students take course on Tropical Diseases at USP

Graduate students from American (South and North) and European institutions will be in São Paulo from July 13 to 23 to gather knowledge on the infectious diseases that strike Brazilians. They are part of the first FMUSP Medical Winter School, promoted by the São Paulo University (USP) Medical School. The program, which is free and in English, consists of two weeks of educational activities.

Study that seeks preventive vaccine against leishmaniasis in dogs is the winner of the 2015 Young Researcher Award

The results showed the protein's protective effectiveness against the infection by the parasite in tests with mice and the ability to identify and differentiate serum from animals with visceral leishmaniasis
